Description
Our cycling tour will start from Crissy Field in San Francisco, cross the Golden Gate Bridge, go through picturesque Sausalito and then climb and descend to Muir Woods National Monument. There you will have an hour to immerse yourself in the majestic tranquility of towering ancient redwoods. Since we are cycling in, you will not need advance reservations for Muir Woods and you can purchase entrance tickets there ($15/person). Our return route will be based on your appetite for climbing and your interest in gravel cycling. If we go gravel, we will head towards lunch at the charming The Pelican Inn next to Muir Beach and then ride through the Marin Headlands’ gravel trails with coastal views and maybe even sightings of bobcats, coyotes and deer. If we stick to road, we can still lunch at the Pelican Inn (more climbing) or lunch in Mill Valley or Sausalito (less climbing). Either way this is a rigorous ride where you'll ride a minimum of 30 miles and climb a minimum of 2,500 feet. This tour will take 4 to 6 hours depending on which route we take and your riding abilities. The start time is negotiable. Safety is our #1 priority, so we try to ride bike trails or bike lanes as much as possible. You can learn more about our guiding qualifications on our website. If you need a bike, we recommend renting from Sports Basement’s Presidio Store, which is our starting and ending point. They have high quality road and gravel bikes and helmets.
